VNCPC provided training courses on industrial symbiosis in Can Tho, Ninh Binh and Da Nang

From April 23-26, 2019, Vietnam Cleaner Production Center Co.Ltd. (VNCPC) cooperated with Sofies (Switzerland) to organize training courses on industrial symbiosis in 3 provinces Can Tho, Ninh Binh and Da Nang.

There were activities within the framework of the project “Implementing the ecological industrial zone (IZ) initiative towards a sustainable industrial zone model in Vietnam” chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The participants of training courses are the representatives of enterprises in the IZs, IZ Management Boards and IZ infrastructure investment enterprises in 03 selected localities to implement the project include: Ninh Binh, Da Nang, Can Tho, and related ministries/agencies.

Trainees were given certificates when participating in the training courses.

Accordingly, the trainees were provided by national and international experts: Provide the main concepts, methods and tools related to the detection and implementation of industrial symbiosis;

Providing practical tools to support the implementation of industrial symbiosis: case of typical business, financial mechanism, contract signing, mobilizing the participation of parties in the implementation of industrial symbiosis;

Provide recommendations to address the needs of building symbiotic links in practice in the project.

The courses received high appreciation from participants and the sponsors.

VNCPC participated in the kick-off session of the Component for Services and Techniques for Pilot Recycling Technologies in two craft villages

On November 6th, 2018, at the Vietnam Environment Administration (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), the Project Management Board held a kick-off meeting to provide a service and technology component for plastics recycling technology in two craft villages in Hung Yen. The meeting aimed to unify the contents, implementation plan and activities of coordinating and managing the products of the bidding package.

This is a package under Component 3 of the “Implementing Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Best Environmental Practices (BEP) project in outdoor combustion to implement the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), through the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The project is a practical action to implement the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. Around the world, five countries – Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, the Philippines and Vietnam are selected by UNIDO.

This package was co-chaired by Vietnam Cleaner Production Center Co.Ltd (VNCPC) and its partners Vinacolour Co. Ltd., Viet Trung Environmental Technology Co. Ltd in two plastic recycling villages Minh Khai and Phan Boi (Hung Yen), during 2 years (2018 – 2020).

The purpose of the tender package is to survey, feasibility study, identify and apply BAT/BEP solution to improve the production process, reduce the amount of waste generated in the production process while reducing emissions. Non-destructive organic pollutants (UPOPs) due to plastic waste burning activities.

Main activities of the project include:

Survey and evaluate the current status of plastic recycling technology in two craft villages

  • Proposed BAT/BEP solutions
  • Training and technology transfer for households
  • Installing and testing two new technological lines in two craft villages
  • Installation and testing of waste plastic recycling line to create useful products such as brick, plastic tile, plastic fence, tray, plastic tray, …
  • Measurement and analysis of economic and environmental efficiency before and after project implementation.

Advanced RECP training for 26 local officials

On September 5 – 6 in Hanoi, Vietnam Cleaner Production Center Co.Ltd (VNCPC) organized a training course on “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) ” for 26 local officials.

The participants in the intensive RECP training were mainly from energy saving and cleaner production centers, cleaner production-related agencies and organizations, and technical staffs from the FDI.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the course, Mr. Le Xuan Thinh, VNCPC director, said that the project of implementing the Eco-Industrial Park (IZ) initiative to the Sustainable Industrial Park with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) will be run from 2015 to 2019, including capacity building and RECP assessment for enterprises in selected industrial zones: Da Nang, Can Tho, Ninh Binh.

Over the past 3 years, VNCPC has been honored to be chosen by the project management board as the consultant to perform these tasks. Up to now, VNCPC has trained 220 staffs for enterprises.

According to Vu Quoc Huy, Deputy Director of the Department of Management of Economic Zones, Ministry of Planning and Investment: After 25 years of development, Vietnam’s IPs need a new model and more effective competition.

Secondly, enterprises in the IZ have not paid much attention or have not enough knowledge and information to apply cleaner production methods, use more economical and efficient resources and raw materials to improve their capability  competitive.

Third, environmental issues, especially waste management, are not properly addressed.

Fourth, enterprises in the IZ have not cooperated in the joint use of resources, raw materials and reuse of industrial waste.

Therefore, the objective of this training course is to enhance the specialized RECP advice and assessment skills for cleaner production and energy conservation consultants from departments, departments and universities. After the training, participants will become the source of specialists who can undertake the tasks related to the implementation of the local RECP program.

For its part, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will continue to coordinate with ministries, branches, People’s Committees of provinces/cities and management boards of local industrial zones to accelerate the conversion of industrial zones into ecological zones. We hope that the trained specialists will become the extension arms to support these transformation programs locally.

Accordingly, in 2 days, participants have access to RECP techniques and examples in practice; energy assessment skills; material; thermal energy; water assessment skills; chemical management; waste; monitoring.

At the end of the course, all participants scored 8-10/10 for topics taught by technical staffs of VNCPC.
