Objectives
This assignment was implemented under the project “Building a Circular Economy Model in Medical Plastic Waste Management”, signed between Winrock International and the Center for Health and Environment Research and Development (CHERAD), with the aim of specifying the tasks and solutions for implementing the National Green Growth Strategy and Action Plan in the healthcare sector.
The key elements of green growth in the healthcare sector include (i) minimising environmental impacts through safe medical waste management and reducing carbon emissions; (ii) using water, energy and materials economically and efficiently, and increasing the use of recyclable or environmentally friendly medical materials; (iii) building sustainable healthcare infrastructure; (iv) strengthening public health, with a focus on preventive healthcare programmes and the development of telemedicine services; and (v) promoting education and environmental awareness in healthcare-related activities.
Activities
- Reviewing the context and international experience of green growth in the healthcare sector; summarising and integrating the findings into the draft Action Plan;
- Compiling and systematising comments on the draft Green Growth Action Plan for the healthcare sector from departments, ministries and other stakeholders; advising and supporting the Health Environment Management Agency (VIHEMA) – Ministry of Health in responding to the comments and setting directions for revising the draft Plan; and
- Coordinating with and supporting VIHEMA in finalising the Plan and preparing the explanatory report for the healthcare sector’s Green Growth Action Plan.
