The training programme aims to raise awareness of the Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) model, share and exchange experiences and knowledge related to the implementation of EIP policies, and identify and apply industrial ecology opportunities based on existing materials from UNIDO, the World Bank (WB), and GIZ.

The training programme covers EIP-related topics designed to strengthen capacity and meet the needs of policymakers as well as EIP service providers. It provides a balanced combination of theoretical lectures, practical examples, and interactive exercises. Through the training programme, participants have the opportunity to connect with expert networks and share experiences with one another in developing and delivering high-quality, value-added EIP services that meet the needs of enterprises and organizations in Viet Nam.

Main activities of the assignment:

  • Develop and prepare training materials on (i) implementation of EIP policies and (ii) identification and implementation of EIP opportunities in industrial parks, based on existing materials from UNIDO and the World Bank, for industrial park managers, enterprises, regulatory authorities, and relevant service providers; and
  • Organize and deliver two online training courses for policymakers and EIP practitioners in Viet Nam over a two-month period from October to December 2023. The courses include six training modules, each lasting two hours, for a total of 12 training hours. Each module is delivered twice, allowing participants to choose the most convenient time. Participants who successfully complete the training programme receive a “Certificate of Completion of the EIP Training Course” from UNIDO.

Activities implemented:

  • Prepared a list of target groups, including government agencies responsible for industrial park management, policymakers and managers in the field of EIP application and implementation; private-sector organizations such as industrial park infrastructure developers and secondary enterprises in industrial parks; educational institutions, civil society organizations, and sustainable development consultants;
  • Developed a survey questionnaire on the current status of awareness and implementation of EIPs in Viet Nam, as well as the training needs of target participants;
  • Established two separate training programmes for two corresponding training courses for two target groups, namely (i) policymakers and (ii) EIP practitioners in Viet Nam. Each training programme includes multiple relevant topics tailored to the respective target group;
  • Participated in the preparation and finalization of training materials;
  • Selected suitable candidates for the two training courses and sent official invitation letters to the selected candidates; and
  • Organized two online training courses via Zoom Meeting. Each course consisted of 12 training sessions, including six sessions repeated twice, held on suitable dates. A total of 82 Vietnamese participants joined the training programme, including 40 participants in the training course for policymakers and 42 participants in the training course for EIP practitioners in Viet Nam. The completion rate of the training programme, defined as attending five or more training sessions, reached 75%.
