Implementation duration: 2009 – 2013 in Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, Long An, Quang Ngai and Soc Trang.
Objectives
- To support sustainable development through enhancing environmental governance in Vietnam;
- To promote the application of pollution prevention approach and implementation of regulations on industrial pollution management in improving industrial pollution management capacity at local level; and
- Support Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment in improving the effectiveness of policies and relevant legislations
Specific Objectives:
- Strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) to formulate and implement industrial policies in close coordination with relevant ministries and participating provinces;
- Enhance the effectiveness of the use of environmental non-business expenditure allocated to the participating provinces;
- Develop effective, sustainable and gender-responsive industrial pollution management programmes in the participating provinces.
Activities
- Training: 10 courses with total 828 persons x training days;
- Cleaner Production assessment for 19 enterprises in 05 selected provinces: Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Long An, Soc Trang and Hai Duong;
- Economical benefits: Total investment in CP programme of companies as a whole is 3.7 billion VND and 785,000 USD; helped participating companies save 86.06 billion VND thanks to reduced material, water, energy and chemical consumption; and
- Environmental benefits: reduce wastes discharged to the environment. The reduction for one production year is detailed as: Waste water: 987,000 m3; Solid waste: 1,136 tons; Waste chemicals: 22.8 tons; GHG Emission: 48,683 tons of CO2 và 452,025 kgs of dust emission.
