The objective of the assignment is to support the development of the national strategy for sustainable development of the textile and apparel industry. This strategy includes vision and action plan to help the textile and apparel industry go green with resources efficiency and energy saving, chemicals efficiency and safety, waste management as well as updated technology trends, so that contributes to the country’s commitment on the sustainable development goals and other international multi-agreements.

Main activities of the assignment

  • Review and document all existing laws, regulations, strategies relevant to textile sector’s environmental performances and consult with these public sector players on the future outlook of these interventions as respond to Vietnam’s SDG, climate change and green growth commitments;
  • Review international and regional best practices in promoting textile sector sustainability transition;
  • Work with VITAS and relevant government ministries to forecast sector development trend, implications on natural resource use and identify possible interventions to mitigate environmental impacts of the sector development;
  • Draft the policy document on “Vietnam’s green textile and apparel sector vision” in collaboration with WWF Vietnam and VITAS;
  • Prepare and present the draft “Vietnam’s green textile and apparel sector vision” in the government workshop on textile and garment strategy on behalf of WWF.
